Birdhouse Trash to Treasure

Hi, Michele here from www.briarpatchprim.com with a thought provoking question for you today. My question is, is it considered dumpster diving if your 8 year old daughter forces her dad to bring home a 3' wooden birdhouse from the dump?

Now I'm going to say no, lots of times people take such items to toss and they place them off to the side of the dumpsters for others to take if they want. No, my daughter didn't climb into a dumpster, but I'm sure your curious as to what happened that faithful day at the dump.

Grab your cuppa coffee and I'll tell you. My kids both love to go with their dad to take the trash to the dump they have been known to find many treasures there. Well today my darling daughter decided she wanted to tag along. While there she spotted this awesome, yet dated 3' birdhouse that was covered in dusty artificial ivy, old blown green cord christmas lights, the top was painted green and the main section was highly glossy natural wood and gently covered with cobwebs, it surely must of been sitting in an attic or basement for years, and its no wonder my husband did not want to bring this thing home, after all the garage was clean and he didn't want anything to clutter it up. But my daughter being the little junkgirl diva that she is persuaded and pretty much forced her dad to bring this home to give to me as a surprise.

And boy was I surprised I immediately fell in love with all the possibilities and of course I made over my daughter with hugs and kisses for her keen eye and great sence of style. And with in minutes I had that old ivy and shot lights yanked off and was removing all the old staples from the wood. Next I sanded the entire birdhouse and then went to my trusty paint stash and found some great black paint and painted the entire thing black. I did take a break and left the birdhouse sit over night to dry and then the next day (after a day working in my store of course) I got out the sander again and sanded all the edges to give it that great primitive look we all adore. And I am so pleased with how the birdhouse came out. Oh how awesome It will look next to newly purchased mums and the pumpkins my kids decorated for halloween. Oh how I love to decorate once I get started there is just no telling how the house or porch will end up.

Come on by my website www.briarpatchprim.com and check out the before and after photos I've taken of my birdhouse located in my articles section of the site and while your there go ahead and do some shopping, you know you enjoy decorating too.

Until next week, have fun decorating.
